ppm to mg/m³ Converter

Convert gas concentrations between ppmv and mg/m³ at the temperature and pressure you choose.

Ambient, workplace, and some stack standards use mg/m³ or µg/m³ instead of ppm. The conversion uses the molar volume at the stated conditions.

ppm to mg/m³ calculator

Concentration
2.6183 mg/m³
Concentration
2,618.3 µg/m³

Steps

  1. Molar volume = 0.0820574 × (25 + 273.15) ÷ 1 = 24.465 L/mol
  2. mg/m³ = 1 × 64.058 ÷ 24.465 = 2.6183

Questions engineers ask

Why does 24.45 appear in many formulas?
It is the molar volume in liters per mole at 25 °C and 1 atm. At other conditions the value changes, which is why this converter asks for temperature and pressure.

More converters: ppm to lb/hr, O2 correction, ppm to lb/MMBtu, lb/MMBtu to lb/hr, g/hp-hr to lb/hr, lb/hr to tons/yr, Wet to dry basis.

How this works

Formula

  • mg/m³ = ppmv × MW ÷ V̂
  • V̂ (L/mol) = 0.0820574 × T(K) ÷ P(atm)

Before you rely on the number

  • Reference conditions differ between programs. Use the temperature and pressure the standard you are comparing against specifies.
